The corporate Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program leads and coordinates improvements in the safety and quality of health care at HMC.
The goal of the HMC IPC program is to ensure that healthcare professionals can provide a safe care environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
IPC is a critical component of clinical care, and everyone working in and visiting a healthcare facility, including administrators, staff, patients, and family members, has a role and responsibility in preventing and controlling infection in the healthcare setting.
This IPC education module has been developed to assist all HMC staff in understanding the principles of IPC and applying these principles to meet the goals of the HMC IPC program.
It will also provide practical guidance for our health care professionals to protect themselves and their patients from healthcare-associated infections.
Understanding the mode of transmission of an infectious agent, as well as knowing how and when to apply basic infection prevention and control principles, is critical for preventing and controlling the spread of infection.
